Lockwood.. 10 0r 11 cuts ????

Postby AusBazza » 30 Jul 2014 17:14

Hi All,
Just cruising the web for a Lockwood decoder, and came across a bloke selling decoders for $49.95, weird thing is that if Lockwood starts at 0 ( root depth:- 0.320 ) and finishes at 9 ( root depth:- 0.185 ) how can this bloke have a decoder gauge that starts at 0 and fishes at 10 which would give 11 cuts.

I forgot to mention that the decoder is made by a mob called LSC, it is not a backyard job. !!

Or am I missing something here ??

Thanks,
Bazza

Not a Lockwood expert, but it could be an error on his part.

Because there are many instances where a "10" cut might be used. Being only .015" difference in depths means there are times in a larger system where a "10" cut can be useful.

0-9 sounds right (10 depths) but often the "10" depth is because people have worn keys.

I personally wouldnt bother with the "10" cut. If it comes down to pinning, just use an 8 BP with a 3MP.
