tubular lock pin jammed how do it fix this

Postby rjd1 » 24 Aug 2014 13:05

ok well i was trying to unlock this lock it seems as thought one of the pin (first to the right) is fully depressed into the lock, it does wiggle a little bit but it does not spring up like the others. is there anyway to fix this as currently it is preventing the lock from turning

-Thank you

I am in no way an expert on tubular locks. But this happened to me on my first picking attempt and I was confused. It turned out that I was just halfway to picking it to the first rotation.

If it moves with no spring behind it, the driver pin for that one is probably caught behind the shearline taking the springiness away. Keep trying all the other pins and get them to do the same thing.

I'd give the lock a shot of spray lubricant and hope you won't need to call a locksmith to destroy it.

You've probably shot out a top pin on the lock by accident.

If you are careful you can take a paperclip and bend out the first section. Push the pin that is in the way & try to get it to spring out & then pull the spring out also. If you are careful you'll be able to open this lock one more time--Then you'll be better off to replace it, before it locks up again.

I don't know if this will get your lock open, without having to knock out a few driver pins.

I have done this twice with Ace 2 locks. Don't know how to fix it yet.

Working on ace locks can be a new kind of frustration but they can be taken apart. Once the pins begin to fall out they are worn out.
