I wanted to add this to my previous replies to relieve any clutter on this thread, but I ran out of editing chances.

I found 2 great articles on the difference between Torsion and Torsion Tensor and how they are confused and miss understood, with use of terminology and application...

http://www.researchgate.net/post/Geometric_interpretation_of_a_torsion_tensor

http://aflb.ensmp.fr/AFLB-322/aflb322m599.pdf

however, I am still open to deleting the term torsion and torsion tensor from the vocabulary of lock picking terminology.

however if i came off as rude or ignorant to the laws of physics, or to your preferred terminology then I apologize.

Thank you again for teaching me this!

Thank you all for your advice and corrections to my write up.

My intent certainly wasn't to humble you or school you or be one of those know it all "internet correctors" (who I hate) when I see them correcting people on news article comment sections or on forums. There are plenty of people here who are better at picking and know more about locks than I do, I just run the joint, but you know, I will say I ain't no slouch either when it comes to locks.

When it comes to the whole torsion thing, its just a word that rubs me the wrong way for some unknown reason, I'm pretty sure I've gotten into hour long debates about it in person with people like Deviant and Schuyler. So i don't want you to think I'm at all jumping down your throat about it, it's just a hang up i have about that word and what it means to me in the context of lock picking.

It's certainly an interesting topic and something to think about, thanks for your feedback. That roll along a curve without twisting was interesting reading, thanks.

bembel wrote:This teeter-totter thing sounds interesting, but how crappy must a lock be for this having an effect on the binding order? I do not deny it, it's just that it might work on really cheap locks only.

Teeter totter maybe a stretch for this situation but... the new pacific locks 100g and 95g and the new American (masterlock produced) 5200 locks cores have some play. Can I notice it... not really... does it affect my picking? I don't even think about it as a variable but I'm sure to some small degree it may be.

Profit = cutting cost to produce the same product....

As already stated: I do not doubt it, but the locks must be really crappy.
Cheap Chinese locks aren't that much of a challenge, but it doesn't help on a Zeiss-Ikon, that's for sure. ;)
