Glad you are able to use your skills to help others. Just be careful and legal.

Just when you finally think you have learned it all, that is when you learn that you don't know anything yet.

Since we are not a cabal of thieves, we don't call law enforcement types by outmoded stereotypical names. You can tell use you're a LEO, we all know what it is, and have no problem with police learning how to pick locks, in fact we'd love to teach more folks so they can learn it is a fun hobby and not a shady activity. Well, if I opened a door for someone I'd probably say something like, "You know, that Kwickset lock you have is a piece of crap. You should really call a locksmith and get a real lock installed." But then I would only open a lock for someone I knew well in the first place. David

IANAL (In this case, I Am Not A Locksmith ) but I would suspect that many people, upon experiencing a lockout, calling out <someone - locksmith, friend, LEO, whatever> and seeing them pop open a cheap crappy lock with picks in a few seconds, would have a bit of a shocked reaction and immediately contact a local locksmith to get better locks. Of course, maybe I'm just underestimating people's lack of concern when it comes to their own safety/security, and desire to save a penny rather than protect themselves from thieves.

In all of the lock picking favors I've done for people, even though there haven't been a whole lot of them, no one has ever arrived at the conclusion that they need better locks, no matter how fast I opened them.

To the OP
Many in my family are retired police and FBI. I'm the oddball being ex-military. Regardless, I can most certainly speak for myself and probably for the vast majority of folks here on LP101 by saying that I/we have the utmost respect for our brothers and sisters in blue. You are not looked at as fuzz or a pig or anything like that. Not here and not by me/us.
So welcome! I'm sure you'll find plenty of info here. If you're still learning like I am you will find folks here who really know their stuff.
