First dimple lock

Postby Thanshin » 19 Feb 2016 20:35

I've just received a simple goso pick set and in a few minutes opened my first ever dimple lock (I chose the one with no brand expecting it to be the easiest of the locks lot I bought).

Most thanks go to Bosnianbill, whose "How to Pick Dimple Locks" video was on the background.

Still feeling that tiny silly thrill every time a new lock opens for the first time.

Awesome Thanshin!

Did you use specific dimple lock picks or something more traditional like a half diamond?

I used the large curved flag dimple pick from the cheap goso set.

Once I understood the reason to have "flag" shapes and to have left and right sided picks, the feeling quickly translated to what I've learned with serrated locks: find the binder, push slowly until it clicks, find the next binder, etc. My only doubts were "do I use the curve? or the point of the flag" and "how do I find the binder?". Both questions were answered in that same video.

Well, the "which sided dimple pick to use and how" is rather shown than explained.

Now I have ~20 other dimple locks in the same lot to go through, two of which are same brand and model as my apartment door. So I hope they'll last me a while.
