Possibly an odd pin?

Postby sisk » 21 Jun 2016 14:50

I don't have the model number on this thing, but it's a 50mm Master lock with an aluminum body. It has 5 pins. Pins 2 and 3 are spools. I can't decide whether 4 is a spool or a serrated (I keep changing my mind which it feels like, but I've not yet intentionally tackled anything with serrated pins, so a spool seem more likely). I'm pretty sure pin 1 is serrated because it feels like it sets then sets a second time if you keep pushing (this is why I'm still on the beginner forum). But pin 5 has me confused.

When it comes up in the binding order - I've figured out through trial and error that it's next in the binding order when nothing binds - it doesn't bind right away. I have to push it up about 2 millimeters before it binds. Once it does finally bind it feels like a standard pin. What kind of pin does that?

At least one of the pins is likely to be a standard pin (usually the front one). Are you sure its a serrated? Can you see the top pin when the lock is closed/unpicked? It could also be a certain type of serrated pin where there is a little cut at the very top and very bottom of the pin though I usually find those in Abus locks. Do you have any pictures of the lock you could post for us? If it's an American Lock type lock, it could definitely have security pins everywhere.

You can see the type of pin I'm talking about on the far left of this image:

Pins 2 and 3 are definitely spools. Pin 4 is definitely not standard. I think pin 1 serrated, but without having picked something I know to be serrated to compare the feels I can't say for sure. It's definitely not standard the way it 'sets' multiple times, but I suppose a very shallow spool might be possible. Pin 5 is the weird one that doesn't bind till it's partially set. With it being a Master I can't imagine there's anything too exotic in there, but it doesn't match the description of spools, serrateds, or T pins that I've heard.

This appears to be the 9150EURD lock. I can't seem to find any info on it yet, but I'll keep looking. Hopefully knowing the catalogue number will help.
