More knowledge on technique help!!

Postby Roger0192 » 1 Aug 2016 16:36

So I've read many articles of lockpicking how how locks work. With this knowledge I am able to pick easy locks such as the master number 3 and 7. I have done so many times but I would like to know more. I am familiar with the scrub and raking techniques but I would like to know more about the feel. How do you know which pins are need to be set before moving on the the next. How do you listen to the pins? Unfortunately I don't have a see through lock so it is a little difficult for me. As for the tension wrench, how much pressure is needed? In my experience I put very little pressure and out more when I hear all the pins set thus unlocking. Is this method right? Please teach me, I would love to learn more. Thank you!!!

As far as tension goes, each lock will require different tension. It's something you just have to practice and get used to feeling the feedback. Personally, I'll start with very little tension and gradually increase while I'm raking or picking until I feel the proverbial sweet spot.
If you're raking with a bogota or whatever you want to use, you can feel binding pins if you just keep practicing and developing a feel for it. Binders won't let your pick pass over as easily (since they're...binding  )

I know it's all basic stuff, jimu57 and kwoswalt99 have offered excellent information. I would also recommend checking out the free book available on bosnianbill's website.
