Crossing canada/us border with picks

After searching the forums for this info, and several sites to no avail I prevail upon you, oh forum members!

I am a long distance truck driver from Canada who operates canada/us. Before I make the possible ultimate mistake and take my picks/practice locks across the border potentially illegally, does anyone know is it is legal to have picks in your possession when crossing the land border, going either way?

it depends on the State you are entering and where in Canada you are reentering.
