Where to get Barrel Padlock blank keys?

Postby Brooke » 14 May 2017 1:32

Hi: I have some old Yale padlocks without keys and would like to try impressioning to make them functional. Where to get the blank keys? Just started looking into making the key if there are not any available. To that end am using brass tubing to figure out the sizes. http://www.prc68.com/I/Images/Yale9425B-02b.jpg

Have Fun, Brooke

I had some luck with old cabinet keys. Go to a flea market with the padlock and try them. You can easily find some brass ones that can be filed down to size.

Good luck and let us see your results :)

An old client of mine used to make his own keys from a chunk of bar brass
He'd start by drilling the hole in the end of the key and do the rest on his grinder--
you just grind away everything that doesn't look like a key

Go to Ace Hardware and ask to see their 'furniture lock keys'. Lowes is supposed to have them too, but have never looked there myself.

Go to a locksmith, tell them the post diameter inside and out and the height of the bit. They can order blanks for you.
