We have a Better Business Bureau in Canada, I am sure the UK would have something similar. Maybe check that out if your still apprehensive in sending your ID.
You could respond and tell them you are not comfortable with sending personal information to them and ask if there is another method of paying for the product.
Let us know how you make out.
