Cole 3KCC key cutter

Postby Noakes » 1 Mar 2018 13:46

My wife works out of a real estate office that has a Cole 3KCC key cutter which I have used for both myself and for them.

The Cole appears to have an automatic key cutting feature activated by a button next to the on/off switch. The button does activate a mechanism however the key carriage does not move as I would expect it should.
The mechanism comes back and rests in its 'off' or 'normal' position after making its one revolution.
I see no linkages or springs on the mechanics of the alignment lever or carriage and am sure it is missing components. I don't find any obvious places for springs, etc. to be attached to these other parts.

Would anyone have pictures of this mechanism showing the way it is meant to be? Would there be an on line manual for this machine?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

PS: I have found references to this machine on older posts where images were called out in the text but I could not view anything. These posts were several years old, I figured the images had been deleted.

I found a grainy photo of one with the cover off, how does that compare to what's under your cover behind the start button?

Noakes; I have a 4 page instruction manual for your machine. PM your address and I'll send a copy.

Thank you both for your feedback.
The machine here is the same. They both appear to have the same parts, linkages etc. This includes the single pic and the attached series of pics.

The owner claims that she remembers that the machine is automatic. She said that once the carriage (as I call it) has both keys properly located and the button is pushed that the carriage is automatically picked up and travels through its cutting range. I don't see how this can happen.

I know this machine needs adjustments, this is a sidebar.
I believe that once I know how the machine was designed to be used it will solve most of my questions.
The one thing that I wonder about is the adjustable collar that is on the shaft next to the carriage. I know the carriage needs to be reset on the shaft.

From what I see the operator has to manually push the carriage all the way to the right and lift it to the cutting wheel, sill I can't see what holds it there if it is not the operator.

I will look over the manual once I receive it, hopefully it will answer my questions.
Again, thank you all.
