but can't seem to find any info on felony [class e-dwi 1987] in NY and how it affects liscencing. I would consider locksmithing as a hobby but may like to take a course only if I can make some money, other wise I will go with books and videos. Like to say hello to all. Very interesting site. Very informative. Like I said I have searched now for a couple of days and can't really find anything. I am semi retired and live in upstate NY not the city

I would hope that by now, that DWI is off your record. If not, that is a crime in itself.

As far as I can tell, from reading all posts from various members, laws vary quite a bit from state, to state.

Even 'intent' to comitt a crime, is a very grey area.

The best possible advice I can give, is to contact a lawyer. They will be better fitted to answer your question, and protect you from any lawful harm while persuing this trade/hobby.

felonies are funny that way. They never come off your record. It would be Ironic if I got arrested by a cop who never got caught dwi and sentenced by a judge who never got caught either. Not such a stretch. Seems like the crime is getting caught. Cops, ploiticians and fireman are getting caught frequently in NY dwi. They usualy have to retire with pension. Oh well.

It's my understanding that there are methods of getting felonies expunged after about 10-15 years of good behavior. It's no easy process but I would check with a lawyer if I was you.
