Best rake to buy?

Postby TeamSherman » 19 Aug 2018 19:06

Hi folks,

I’m about to buy a few separate pieces but the one I’m stuck on is which rake to buy and from which brand??

I’m shopping on pickpals here in Australia so there are many different brands and styles.

Tell me what has worked best for you and what would be best for all round raking of padlocks and door locks!

Cheers,

Al.

HPC 2000 S Rake, or a Peterson City Rake/L-Rake in rubber handle.

others will no doubt have their own favorites.

My personal favorite is a rake from A-1 that is chrome plated by the factory.

Hey Wizer, I also miss raimundo!

Back on topic, I suggest to the OP not to buy a rake, but just an half diamond and make a few tension wrenches. Then you can learn how to pick locks!

Cheers :)

+1, femurat. My primary pick is a half diamond that I made. Can both rake and pick with it.

Miss Raimundo, too. Really good guy.

I would you suggest to buy a rake in the shape of a key.
In fact buy a set with all possible key shapes... About 100k of them.

What I found it's really hit and miss with rakes that's one reason why I almost never use one.
Either a rake works on a lock or it does not and will quickly spend a while trying a dozen different rakes you own.

I make my own bogotas, which are my favorite. I also have them from serepick. When I first started picking I used the S rake quite a bit, that thing has made fast work of MANY master locks and Kwiksets alike..

EDIT: Corrected spelling from Qwikset to Kwikset. - Gordon
