Very Old Bell lock side cut lock

Postby coinslots » 18 Sep 2014 23:20

I have an old pinball machine with 4 chrome "bell locks" on it, I am almost sure that these locks are all keyed the same so I would like to know if anyone might know who to turn to, to have a key made for these locks. I do have a couple blank keys. They also use these old locks on Mills slot machines and I have one mills slot machine lock apart in all the photo's. The lock I need a key made for can be see in the photo's, it's the chrome ones. There was two small acces door on this old mills pinball machine and I am lucky that they were not locked to the machine, so I have two locks to work with. Here are the photo's:

The back of the lock is stamped with a L 635 and another lock has a L 634 on it hand stamped, so maybe they are not keyed the same. Does anyone know someone who knows how to work with these locks and might be able to make me some keys?

Also, how do you pick locks like this??

Thanks!

Don't forget to ask around on pinball forums. You may get some help by asking around with the brand and year of your machine. Usually someone has gone through the same issues in the past at one time or another

Good luck

Mills made and used these locks on all the early mechanical slot machines as well on the few early pinball machines. They used them over a large span of years on the old slot machines. I take it that most people here have not seen these early bell locks, so picking them might just be something I have to learn on my own as I don't see anyone jumping in on this one. But it never hurts to ask!
Thanks

Hello My Friend up North!
I have never found anyone that could pick the MILLS BELL lock!
They are fairly easy to re-key if you take one apart and have an extra key but picking them is a mother bear and as I mentioned don't know anyone who has!
Ciao!

The shop I used to work in carried keyed alike locks in pairs, but I haven't seen a set of 4 keyed alike. We never bothered trying to pick them, just replaced them with new.

I have several of the Bell keys, if you are talking about the inverted V at the tip, with inner groove. I think they can be picked, but need a custom pick. Would be curious if LPL, or BB have a video.

Picked a couple of them using tweezer-type turning tool and a half diamond pick.
