I bought an old Master Lock 1719 (pictured below) off eBay and I want to learn how to pick it. Where to I start? What picks do I need? I jumped the gun and bought a Dangerfield Serenity set, but after doing more research, those are the wrong type of picks for this type of lock?
first take the lock apart so you know what's cooking inside. then make a hole saw hole on the cover to make a viewing window, or what's known as a cutaway so you can pick it without everything inside fallling out.
Your fence and levers are visible in the viewing slot at the 4 oclock position in your pic.
Work the key a few times open and closed while watching the slot and you can see how they line up to open.
You can buy picks or just make them out of stock. Start working on the first lever you can see in the window til you get the hang of it. Youll also need a tension wrench to put pressure on the plug just like picking a pin tumbler lock.
