Flipping a Bogota—Is This a Thing?

I’m pretty new at this, but I’ve found that I can open all of my padlocks using the double Bogota with 3 steps.
1) quick rake “right side up”
2) quick pick pins, using the tip “upside down”
3) a few light rakes until the lock opens.

Do others also use both sides?

I have not seen nor heard of others using both sides. Usually rakes are used without any interruptions until the cylinder rotates.

I have not heard of or tried this, but a open is a open so congratulations LOL
next time I am at my work bench I will give it a try

I should probably mention the obvious, that the lock may pop open before step 3, since each of the other two steps might be enough on their own. Also the single pins don’t have to be carefully picked, just prodded one at a time. This is usually all it takes to find and nail any deep cuts that don’t respond well to raking.

This feels risky. I would not want to put pressure on the tip of the Bogota in that manner and risk snapping it off due to fatigue over time. There is nothing wrong with holding tension on the plug, reaching for a hook pick, setting pins or testing their state with the hook pick, and then going back in with the Bogota to continue raking or jiggling.

I suppose that could be an issue if your Bogotas come to a very fine point, but the ends of my Bogota picks appear to be even more robust than the ends of my hook picks. Using the same tool to pick on one side and rake on the other is a fun alternative to using two different tools.
