Cylinder turns when picked, but doorknob won't turn

Hi all!
I went to a rehab store to purchase some old doorknobs and found a few to practice with. I think I'm doing this correctly, but maybe not. I'm using my tension wrench and pick to pick the pins and I'm consistently able to turn the cylinder so I'm assuming I'm picking it properly... But the doorknob itself won't turn.

This doorknob / lock combo has a turny lock on the other side - it's like a bedroom door / interior lock. The lock works, I can lock and unlock and the doorknob will turn / not turn depending on if it's locked.

My question is... Is there another step to picking these locks? Is it possible that you can pick the lock, turn the cylinder, but that doesn't REALLY unlock the door lock?

It didn't come with keys.

From my experience, padlock cylinders are picked clockwise, while interior doorknobs are picked counter-clockwise. I do not know if the handedness of the doorknob actually indicates which way to rotate the cylinder, but most of the ones I have picked are left-handed.

After picking the lock, you may need a screwdriver to put extra torque to the mechanism to actually turn it. Or it may be broken and that’s why it was replaced. Many possible reasons

Just a couple extra suggestions

You are picking the lock in the wrong direction. Kwikset knobs pick to the left or counter clockwise

Aha thank you franklyflawless and deserthills! After you both said that, I re-looked at the manual lock, and realized that unlocking was indeed turning the other direction! Thanks, gonna try that now :)
