what's the point of an alarm?

Just that if the van is parked in your driveway overnight you will hear if the alarm goes off and go investigate.

Yes but if you have slam locks would they try to break in in the first place?

I am not trying to be argumentative i would just sooner stop them getting in rather than chase after them after they got in

Well, I'm not trying to say you should rely on an alarm alone for protection. An alarm should be just one part of a good security system. I'd like to have the slam locks and an alarm.

I once read about someone who kept having people go after his Sierra Cosworth. He ended up putting the car in a locked garage, with axles chained to rings in the floor and bollards across the end of his driveway, but still people came in the dead of night and tried to nick it. If people are really determined, there is not much you can do.

Well of course the normal mains is 240V in the UK, and that gives quite a jolt if you touch it. Anyone with a three phase supply has 415V, and you really don't want to touch that!

Most of our houses are 120/240 single phase.
Three phase 'business' power can be 120/208. Or 277/480. The 277 and 480 are mostly for motors, and lighting. Any thing else plugged in to these voltages just turns them to smoke.

eden Locksmiths in Coventry have a solenoid operated system that runs with the central locking. you basically have cylinder that push up and dead lock the doors. only draw back with that is if you can pop the central locking by probing the looms the doors will open???

i remember seeing on the news a guy in Cannock (a few years ago) had an astra GTE that kept getting nicked. he had it chained down and all sorts and the car theives took it as a challange and still managed to nick it!!!!
