i suggest you contact a safe engineer because if you lock this safe you may not be able to get it open again. at least if its broken its broken in the open position.
if you want info on your safe we will need to know what type it is and how old ect. but i guess you wont get a lot of info as threr is a section on safes but its in the advanced section and as a new user you wont get in. you have to understand that we dont know who you are

What safe it is is a good start at helping us. It may just need a new key or lock both of which are possible if it is open. Fill in your profile as im not sure of the availability of safe locks at the south pole if thats where you live.

Well, it seems that the product in question is not an actual safe. It's a safebox.

The lock seems to be a normal cylinder lock. Possibly a pin tumbler lock.

If you're lucky, the lock can be separated from the safebox by removing a screw or other such thing from the inside (you said you have it open already). Then you can take the lock to a locksmith.

Not necessarily releated to this specific lock, but some lock designs may have separate keys for locking and unlocking.

im not 100% what this lock is, but if its anything like the cash boxes we have in the UK, the locks are wafer locks, these are fairly easy to pick, but it sounds as though yours is broken inside.

if it is a wafer lock, you unscrew a screw at the back of the lock, take off the clip that actually locks the lid in place along with any washers, then put your key in and the lock barrel should pull out of the front. if it doesnt, you may have to take off a very small round clip holding it in place. it is a fairly simple process if it is the right type of lock. you can then either take it to a locksmith to get it repaired of buy another lock the same to replace it. ebay often has a lot of locks like it.

I've got a safebox exactly like that 1. It was the first lock that i ever picked. I had the same problem and i think i know where you're going wrong. It is possible to pick it back closed but i think it may be unwise to post the method as the safe may not belong to you.

he said he used the key to open it and now it wont lock, i would avise against picking it closed since it may not open again properly, the best action to take would be to take it back to where it was bought or a local locksmith or safe engineer.
