Strange key

hy .....i saw a STRANGE key on my fathers desk today ..... i dont have any photos or stuff ......he didnt actually leave it there more than 2 mins ....and made me real curious ...


the key is something like this

no variations of form or height .....NONE .....(nowhere on the key)

i supose it was electric ....but where could the battery be cuz the base of the key was really slim and the key was like 10g heavy

anyone know what can this be used for ??????TY

It could be a magnetic key. If it really is a magnetic key, it really doesn't need a battery. It works on the assumption that identical magnetic polarities repel each other. In that case, the pins you see are small magnets.
On the other hand, most magnetic door locks I've seen are opened with a magnetic card(plastic card with magnetic strip). The principle is the same though.
As far as I know, magnetic keys are used more often in magnetic padlocks and maybe safe-deposit box locks(I'm giving a shot in the dark here, but sounds plausible).
