as a retired senior I am looking for an interest to pass
the day and am interested in Locksmithing..
It appears too great an effort to make my own
and wonder if someone can tell me where these can
be obtained in Canada

Thanx all. :?:

hey man, great you wanna start lockpicking. Welcome to LP101. Check out the FAQ's and d/l the Pyro movie, which may show you just how easy it is to make picks out of hacksaw blades. I'd suggest searching for canadian lockpicks, as there is heaps of talk about this already on this site.

Good luck, and happy picking

Here's a link to the main post for pyro1234321's movie: Click Here

If you don't want to make them, you will have to buy them online unless you know a locksmith that will order some for you. Lock picks are only sold to locksmiths and law enforcement in Canada.

Try http://www.lockpickshop.com/ , you get a %10 discount if you put "lp101" in for the coupon(someone correct me of im wrong).

Hello Harken

I'm afraid I cant help you much in terms of finding picks in Canada. Your best either buying them online, or making friends with a locksmith and asking him to get you some I think.

I'd like to comment on homebrewing your own picks. Its not anywhere near as hard as you might think. When I first watched the making picks video, I was sure that Pyro was some kind of magician. Then I tried making some of my own, and was delighted that they didn't turn out to be too bad. My first set was usable, but not very well thought out or professional looking. I've recently made a few picks to start a second set (out of the bristles I aquired from quicklocks - thanks quicklocks!) and they are very nice. I've modified the shapes of the pick ends a little to be more suitable for my practise locks, and I've done a very good job of cleaning them up to be all nice and shiny and profesional looking (well...they're getting there...).

Anyway, thats just my two pence. I'm new to the hobby myself and I've spent almost as much time producing my own equipment as I have actually picking. I have to say, its incredible to pick a lock, but its much much more fulfilling to pick it with a tool that you have crafted with yor own hands. Dont knock it until you try it :)

Oh, I forgot to add, I would have posted you some pictures, but I have no digital camera available to me at the moment. There are a few other threads around the forums where various people have posted their own homebrew stuff. Try looking for the stuff made by Mad Mick, Pyro, and lockpickroy; these guy's seem to be turning pick making into a hobby in its own right with the amount of effort they are putting into their work.

Nope, I believe you're correct. If you go through their FAQs, you'd probably find them to be Canadian-friendly as well. 8)

I realize this is an old post but I did want to reply as I just came across it. You are correct - members of the lp101 forum DO get a 10% discount on all non-sale merchandise on the lockpickshop.com website

Please do not enter the coupon code for merchandise found in the "On Sale" category as it is not discounted any further.

Also, we have a pretty fair amount of folks that place an order on the site and follow one of our links back to the lp101 site and figure out (after joining the forum) that members are entitled to a discount.
Please DO NOT email the customer service dept after the order has been placed and ask for the discount after the fact.
The discount code MUST be entered during the checkout process or...NO discount.

As for our Canadian customers- a full 15% of our business comes from Canada. We ship to Canada on a daily basis. We are well aware of the (ridiculous) duties and taxes put upon you by the government and we do everything possible to minimize those fees as I'm sure any number of Canadian LP101 members will attest to.
I'm a bit uncomfortable posting our exact methods here for eternity
but feel free to email me if you have a burning desire for the answer.
We do everything in our power to keep our Canadian customers as happy as our US customers...we very much appreciate the business.

Any more questions on this pm me or drop an email to me.

Have fun!
