Yes....rest assured, if I had to gain entry to a car for a customer, I can think of no applicable reasons to drill, not that there isn't one out there. I would most likely tell the customer to go to the dealer and order a key....but I have never had to do that either....there is almost always a way to get into a car.
Even if you have to wedge the door....I hate doing that, sometimes inevitable though. Funny thing is that most tow trucks in our area are going to exclusively wedging door....it seems they are messing up too much stuff up inside the door. Can't wait to see when someone messes up a whole door. At worst wedge the door and pull the keys out.
Varjeal hit everything well. I do not the full ins and outs of it all, we have yet to purchase a machine to cut these keys, we do not get enough calls on them to justify the price of the machine. I would have to imagine you would have to be in a big city to make your money back, and we do do alot of auto work....the only thing I can think, is that if we were to let all dealerships in the area know that we do them, then, we may get alot of duplicating, but even that might be a gamble.
If you look at the side of the key, and it has one flat edge and one cut edge, it is a two track, and if it has two cut edges, a four track.
From what I know four tracks have split tumblers, and two tracks do not.
