Premature Epickulation

Postby Jimy » 1 Apr 2005 4:47

Hello All,
I "jumped the gun" and placed my 1st tools order, paid shipping, and now I want more stuff. Before I "blow my wad" of cash on shipping again, may I ask:

What picks should one have to best pick a car door lock? I ordered a short hook, half diamond, standard snake and a jag snake. Do I need a ball or double ball? Are there any others that might help for wafers? Maybe an "L" rake?
ps- I have an appropriate 2-finger turning wrench

Thanks for your help!

Jimy, from your other posts here it looks like you've been doing a bit of research on trying to purchase picks strickly for auto locks. Would you mind terribly if we asked why you are so eager to start on auto locks before learning any other basics? Most legitimate new users enjoy simple padlocks to begin with.

Sure, I don't mind your question at all. Have you thoroughly reviewed my posts?

From my 1st post on LP101:

"pss- I strive to be self-sufficient, so tools/abilities are crucial thus my interest in lock picking (and it sounds fun and challenging!)"

and

"After reading these forums (thanks), I believe that I ordered a cheap versatile selection for newbie tinkering and possible emergency use:"

After reading the MIT guide, the crypto notes and LP101, and after trying a paperclip and screwdriver with total frustration, I hastily ordered real tools. I realize now that I should have done more research on what makes up a well-rounded set, so that I don't pay shipping fees again and again.

The majority of my personal lock-outs have been automotive, therefore my research before my next and (hopefully) final tool order for a while. I'm not sure if I have any ability at lock picking, but I have an intense desire to try my hand at it, so much so that last night I had a dream that the tools I ordered had arrived! Upon checking today, they had not. :(

Jimy

ps- my 1st order was a short hook/snake, a half-diamond/jag snake, a "Z" wrench and a 2-fingered wrench

Hello,

I forgot to mention that yes I am definately planning to learn the basics first by following the exercises in the MIT guide and I would love to grow and become proficient at many different types of locks. I just personally see automotive locksmithing as being a very useful aspect of what looks to be a very fun pastime for me.

Unfortunately Jimy, you have stumbled upon a particular topic which is restricted for discussion in a public forum.

The focus towards automotive locks, picking of such locks, bypassing such locks, and the tools required to do the afore-mentioned tasks is not encouraged to be debated within the general area.

The area for the discussion of these methods is within the advanced section, which requires certain conditions to be met.

Please understand that, due to the sensitive nature of automotive picking/bypassing information, users have to be vetted before gaining entry to this section.

If you're interested in learning how to pick (and you obviously are if you're dreaming about your picks arriving), go pick up a cheap padlock from the grocery/hardware store to practice on. Lots of people prefer a cheap Master Lock (no.1 or no.3). I have a quick, simple Magnum that doesn't take much to learn/master. If, for some reason, they're giving you more trouble than you want you can always pick up a practice cylinder. Check out the "for sale" forum (there's been a recent group purchase).

Hello Mad Mick,

Please don't be mad. I understand the reasons for restrictions regarding auto lock picking in open forums. I am inquiring however merely about the appropriate tools for such picking, and not specific techniques or workarounds. I only want to put together a versatile set of tools all at once, so that I don't have to pay more shipping every step up the skills/abilities ladder as I gain experience and other areas of interest.

I have read so much of this web site in the last few days that my eyes are burning, and I apologize if I have overstepped any boundaries that are outlined in one of the FAQ posts somewhere on site that I may have missed.

from Admin: "Those who wish to use it for shady or outright illegal purposes are quite frankly, not welcome on this site." I wouldn't be here if I did not feel welcomed.

Nice to make your aquaintence,
Jimy
ps- Yes I would love to be invited someday to the closed forums, I would consider it quite an honor.

I guess the Admins and Mods have a good sense of humor. It must be developed while trying to pick certain locks, hehe.

Best Regards,
Jimy
