What in your personal opinions are the best locks to practice. I own several different types of Locks. Doors, Deadbolts, Padlocks, Desk Locks, and more. WHat though would you people say is the bes brand to practice on? I want to be able to master most average locks. Thanks for your help. i also need help on a Master No. 40 Dicus lock. Its a difficult lock. Any suggestions? Thanks for all your help. Pyro out

If you want to be able to master most average locks, I would suggest that you practice on most average locks. ;) Pretty simple, eh? Practice on all of them. The wider range of locks you use to practice on, the better. If you get to the point where you have "memorized" the lock, set it aside and go back to it another day.

Happy picking!

i have noticed that since i have started picking i just look at locks when i walk by. I don't sit and study them  but i look at the brand names... i look at padlocks deadbolts knoblocks any thing i walk by. That is a real good idea to look for what brand names to practice on. It will occasionally give you a chuckle too. I have noticed some quicksets (easy brand) on buildings that i don't think that they should be on. :) i just laugh and walk away. But this was how i decided what locks to start practicing on.

happy picking

Sargent and Zeiss may teach you a few things about picking and the stack of the paper in you're wallet. My duuble dead bolt cost me 109 dollars cdn, but I think it was worth it. BTW, most sargent locks are tough because of the evil pin sizes, ie: low, high.

This will all depends on which country you live. As theres no point practicing on locks your unlikly to come across.
In the U.K it will be Chubb. Yale. era. Union, assa, to name a few.
your best bet is go to you local diy store. or locksmith shop. :!: find out the best selling lock in you area,
Then try to get a few and off you go.

I know what you mean about walking by places and looking at the locks. I annoy the heck out of my friends when I do it. But you do get a good laugh at times. I've seen a weiser lock on a resturant before. I have also seen pin tumbler locks outside in harsh conditions all rusted, when a warden would have done better. Ahhh, the beauty of ignorance...
