Dear all,
Firstly may I say what a welcomed relief it was to stumble across a forum web site for locksmiths, particularly when you are starting out from scratch.

I am currently researching the feasibility of starting a new auto locksmith (transponder) business and wandered if anybody out there could give me some advise or guidance on both reputable training courses and the equipment required together with approximate overall starting costs. Also, is there anyway of finding out how lucrative the business is in the Essex area. Any help on the subject would be welcomed and appreciated.

a good auto course is mb auto locks, though you may have to go to spain for it now.

set up is approx £20,000 , less if you lease all machines, the transponder alone is £5995 plus vat for full package.

luton auto keys have all AA , RAC And Green Flag work sewn up, to know how lucrative essex will be, you will need to find out how many auto lockies there are and see, though like all areas of the industry, dont expect to set the world on fire, and dont rely on an income for at least 12 months, set up is high, short term profits there arnt any, long term can be rewarding, but depends on area and how many lockies.
