Making a Bump Key Or a Power key?

Postby LoCkPrOoF » 15 Apr 2005 13:13

Hello, i`m doing already lockpicking for a while, and just a few days ago i found out a new trick, it calls Bump key or Power key. When you cut a key to deepest, you get a 0,25 milimeters from the shoulder you can open allot of cilinders. So i thoughts maybe its fun to try this. So i did cut a key to 666 the deepest cut ABUS, and i also cutted 0,25 mm from the shoulder. And when i`m putting the key in the cilinder it lifts the pins a little bit. So it looks perfectly. But when i enter the key in the cilinder, and smashig with a hammer on the key the lock won`t go open.

Maybe someone have a little experience with making a bump or powerkey, and maybe this person can just help me a little bit with explaining what i`m doing wrong.

I so that i also can buy this keys, but i think its to expensive for just one try, so i need a little help.

Sorry for my bad english:S

There is a paper "out there" by Barry Wels on bumping. Try your hand at the search feature of this web site. And yes, please do update your profile. It helps us understand who we're talking to.

OK, I know there might be a language issue here, but smashing is really not the right description! Tapping with a small mallet might be a better way of putting it. Have you seen the Barry Wels video? I don't have the link to hand but you should search for it.

Okay i`l updated my profile. I`m From holland, and yes yesterday i was stoned, and also right know. Anyway this is who i am and why i wan`t this information. I`m a ex-squatter from Holland. With squatting we mean i squated places for people who could find a home to pay this is totally legal in Holland. So in this time i learned enough about locks, and i know lockpicking don`t work when you wan`t to squat a emty building. And pulling out the cilinder will go much faster, so we never used lockpicking for this job.

But i`m just intrested in how locks work, when i only see a lock i can get a smile on my face. So a few days ago readed the reader from barry and so this video from him. So i jus`t wanted to try this trick. Just for fun, so was been by my locksmith and i explainted what this trick was. He that he try the trick already but it didn`t work. So he showed my the bump key, and i so that it he gotted to much from the shoulder, so i asked if he could make a new key cutted at 666 for an ABUS Europe Profile Cilinder. And i used the a little file to cut a tiny little bit from the shoulder, but still it did`nt work. I played a few days with the lock and a lot of keys, but it still didn`t work. So i thought when i so this forum that maybe some of you can help me a little bit. Anyway next week i`m going to the locksmith again, and then i will find out anyway.

So i hoped that maybe someone over here could give some advice. Like how did`t you guys made a key like this? And do you have some good tips?

I don't even begin to profess to know the laws in Holland, but squatting or no squatting, wouldn't break and enter be illegal? I mean, if it's locked I suspect it's locked for a reason. I don't know. Tough one. I'm kinda at a loss for whether to help or not to help. I much prefer the black and white issues. Somebody wake me the next time someone wants in to a vending machine.....

im not sure of the laws there, but in the UK squatters have rights!! if they break into an empty house and then live there, they can claim squatters rights and live there, they do not pay rent and often trash a house, but you cant evict them, its really stupid really, there is a way tog et the police to help you evict them, but it seems to take ages to do. its all very odd as far as i remember. :?

Haha this time i`m not stoned, so maybe this will work better.

Okay here some more information. Holland is the only place in the world where you can squat legal. Of course everywhere are squats, but if you wan`t to squat in other country you must go with a big group else the cops are going to smash you out of the building.

In Holland there are much empty houses, but its illigal to let them empty for more then a year. So when you squat a place in Holland it needs to be empty for more then a year and you need to claime that you live over there. Then it is the right for the owner to start a civiel procedure so he can go to the judge and try to get you out of his place.

Normally we never squat every empty place, but try to squat places from big company`s who winning money with empty houses. And we think this is not fear because there are allot of people homeles, so were squatting for this people, because there are still enough houses to live, but they are just empty. Most of the time the whole street likes this, because the don`t look at a ghosthouse, with wood before the windows.

But anyway, this is for me all history. I never gonna squat again. But in this time i learned a lot about locks, and that`s when i started with lockpicking. Lockpicking is like computer programming, trying to find out puzzle, whats the same with computer programming. Anyway i`l try the bump trick just for fun. Just trying to find out how it works.

And if i really wan`t to squat i can do nothing with this trick, because we need to get inside a place in a minute. And almost always there is wood before the door, the closed every opening, so that bump keying won`t have a effect. So breaking the door with a bar, will always go faster. And when the wood is gone, we always pulling the cilinder because you need to be sure that you can come in, because the breaking is of course illigal. But when your in and you have placed a bed, tabel, and a chear, everything is okay, and you can call the cops and tell them that you have squated the place. And from that time its legal. Anyway its hard to explain how this works in english. I`m not so good in other languages.

What type of Abus lock are you trying this on?

I don`t know what type of ABUS, because i getted the cilinder for free from the locksmith to try out this trick it wasn`t new. But i also have tryed the trick with a cheap Corbin Cilinder 40017. But anyway it use the same keys as the ABUS. So i thought that it will work probarly, but it don`t care what i try. I maded one key, that almost worked. At least i think because i heard a sound that the front pins where in line, i also could turn the key a milimeter of two. And when you turned the key back i hearded click. And because this happens only with this key, i think that it will almost work. But still it didn`t go open :S But today maybe it will be the day.

Maybe people still have advice for me. I readed also other topics about this issue, but i still cannot find the solution, so please help me. I will be verry happy abou this. And i`m also sure that i will come manny times back on this forum to discus and learning about lockpicking, but i came hear because i did have a question. If i first need to introduce, and tell who i am etc, it will cost a few days to get a answer to my questions. This also happens know. So please i need a little help.

Thanx anyway.

Ohw yeah, when i did the squatting for other people we haved already a electic lockpicking gun, but we never used it for squatting a place. Because we can`t depent on something we`re not sure if it`s gonna work.

So, you are telling us you break into houses that are empty, and that is legal in Holland. Ok, but how do we know you are telling the truth - that the houses are empty?

I don't want some idiot wandering into my house because I keep the curtains closed, or they are too stoned to realise my car has come and gone three times!

Sure, I'll trust you. Not.
