I saw a book about opening dial locks, but most of the reviews about it said it was poorly written and hard to understand. Can someone give me a little info about this subject?
If its in the search, sorry, it was down when i posted this.

Howdy, Im the forum Dudley Cracking undertaker.
It depends on what you want to know. IF you want to learn how to crack dudley locks, I might point you in the direction of my thead http://www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?t=6423
You can learn how to find sticking points there. Pretty close to cracking the actual thing, Im usually a recipocal off of getting it. Once I Get it done, I'll see if my team can put a guide together. If you have any specific questions, post here, and Ill do my best to help you.

Well, I dont think mods will move this if we talk about this happily. IF your lucky, orange or sabin will come in, or maybe another member I constantly forget to mention (pm me so Ill add you to the list in my head) and come explain it clearer to you. Anyways, although I think I know how to crack it almost, I cant really explain too well. LEts see how I do.
Sticking points are where the latch of the shackle bind on the gates. I havent ripped my Dudley lock apart yet, that comes when my supplier gets a cut one. But basically, if you look in my thread, youll see pictures Digital Blue and someone else, I forgot sorry, Ill get your name and post it in, posted pictures of the wheels in the Dudley lock. There are other pictures of the Master Sphero Lock in the Locks section by someone else, I forgot...sorry guys. The latch is frictioned against these gates, and will catch on notches, creating a sticking point. Basically, pull on the shackle, the U thing, and move the dial. YOu will notice that the dial will wiggle, but will stay withen a range. That is a sticking point.
The relevence of these points are that in some of these sticking points, three of them are going to be true notches. The whole popint now is to find out which are real, and which are fake.

so if certain brands have certain sticking points, that means the combo can only be a mix of those numbers?

let us know what book it was and perhaps we can tell you if it was any good. also - if this topic turns from combo padlocks into safecracking, then we'l have to move it to the secure forums unfortunately.
Oh look! it's 2016!

A guy I know wrote a book review on a book that seemed to be about master locks, this is found in the book review section, under files on yahoo locksports group. go to yahoo, click groups, type in locksports and you may be able to look a the file without joining or you might have to join, whatever, All the it is, is a positive statement about this book and I think he said he got it a amazon, and it gives the title of the book. If this is any help.

I actually own that book and have used it to reveal the combination to a master lock before. However, I've only had the chance to do it honestly once. Here's what the book has to offer. It gives you a diagram of a lock and how it works. This site shows how a combination lock works too: http://home.howstuffworks.com/combination-lock.htm I love howstuffworks.com. They're so awesome. Anyway, it also goes into basic patterns you see in the combinations and rules that must be applied. It also goes into ten, twelve, and one gated padlocks. It gives charts that show if one gate is one number, then the other gates should be another number. That's the book in a nutshell.
I did find that the charts weren't good to go by. I didn't find the pattern of the gates to be uniform through the padlocks I worked on. I worked on a twelve gated Master padlock and got the combination. What kind of padlock do you have or are you going to get to practice on?
