How much can a beginning locksmith expect to make? (US)

Is it something you could make a good living at? Or do you need to be an owner to make good money?

I have always wanted to be a locksmith, but when I was out of highschool I couldn't get in anywhere. Now i'm 27 and am fed up with my current job.

I'm a construction worker, and I make ok money doing it. The only problem is that work can get slow and I will be out of work for extended periods of time.

Im thinking of signing up for that Foley-Belsaw school. That way I have that on my side if I decide to look for a locksmith job.

Also... Has anyone started up their own shop? As far as businesses go, I would think there wouldn't be a super huge initial investment in equipment and product. (but what do I know)

If anyone has advice, please chime in. Even if its just to call me a f'in moron.

Thanks
geno

Search the site there you will find what you are looking for...
Its going to take alot of money and time to learn to be a locksmith...
You have got to have deep deep pockets....

Money side of things i think its a load of bull people thinking that locksmiths get a load of money.

But if you want Money be a Plumber or something they are making all the money....

Jobs are very rare and you will find yourself starting out on your own.

The course is supported on this site and many members have or are doing it so you would not be alone if stuck, sounds a good plan.
