American Lock Shackle Removal

Does anyone know how to remove the shackle on an American Lock Padlock?

I changed out a shackle on an American Lock just a couple of weeks ago. But now I can't seem to get this old shackle out of this locks body.

I already have unlocked the lock. I removed the screw to release the cylinder, but I can't get that thing above the cylinder to fall out. I need it to come out to release the ball bearings, allowing for the removal of the shackle.

I've already re-keyed the cylinder and I'm stuck on the shackle.

You are definately describing the correct steps, pulll out the bit that the plug drives, and the ball bearings will come, try pullling the shackle up and around 180 degrees. this might force the tailpiece out. but everything you described, remove the cylinder, pull down the tailpiece, the bearings drop out and the shacklle is free

Try holding the lock by the shackle and hit it on a hard cover book or something else hard and it should come apart. Be careful how you do this. The lock may go flying somewhere.
