hey, only just signed up (as you have probably already noticed) and the site is pretty good i must say

Anyway, ive been looking at getting into lock picking as a hobby for a while now - ive read the MIT guide, the guides on this site and so on so i know most of the theory. But im having some trouble deciding on a set of picks and a suitable practice lock and was wondering if any of you could shed some light on my situation.

I live in the UK and would like a fairly cheap set of picks, and a lock that i can remove some pins from to aid learning. Can any of you give me some specific recommendations as to these products? thanks in advance :).

O and before everyone says "Use the search button" - i already have, but ive not been able to find anything too specific. Also what are your opinions on the jackknife sets?

cheers,
Macca

Jackknife picks - crap because they will not give you any feedback (too bulky - too much inertia). A small set of separate picks is best. I think the jackknife picks are to make you feel cool that you have one.

A really good way to feel encouraged cheaply in the uk is to buy all the padlocks which your local poundland have on the shelf. You'll pick them easily and learn something about 'feel' in the process.

Poundland padlocks - no problem. Good for your confidence. Sometimes you can get 4 for a pound. Just don't forget that these are easy. If it works and you haven't got bored , then you can start spending money on real locks.
