Schlage rekey manual

Postby Catfish45 » 26 Jul 2005 16:45

I'm looking for a rekeying manual for schlage locksets. I found a really nice step by step one w/pictures for kwiksets(http://trade.kwikset.com/website/images ... Manual.pdf) and figured there was probably one similar to it for schlage, but I dont seem to be having much luck finding one. Anyone know where I can get one? Thanks!

I saw that on their site, but I really need one that shows levers and dbolts. I know how to rekey these but some of the guys I work with arent very good at rekeying and instead of them blowing cylinders and leaving the locks for me to rekey later on, I want them to be able to rekey w/o blowing it, and if they do, be able to look at a manual and figure out what they did wrong and how to fix it.

Need more help

Postby JoshMan92 » 27 Jul 2005 18:15

I looked at that step by step thing but do u really need a chamber removal tool, would a screw driver work. I tryed the screw driver and could get off the round spindle, is it just me or do I need the tool?

The cap can be removed with the aid of a paper clip.

As you look at the rear of the cylinder, you will see a small pin. Push this down with the end of the paper clip and then unscrew the cap. Beware of the small spring in the hole beneath the pin, it will fall out unnoticed and then you have to find a replacement in order to get the cylinder working again.

The only 'locksmith tool' I use re-keying cylinders is a plug follower. All the others are regular tools available in any hardware store. I do have a cap removal tool, but only use it when I have several cylinders to re-key. If I have one cylinder to do, it takes me longer to find the tool than remove the cap with the nearest pointy object.
