Wanted "Door Closer Manual"

Postby Hollywood » 16 Jan 2004 19:49

Does anyone know of a Link out there that may have the Free Version of
this manual?

http://www.hpcworld.com/lockhpc/b_dcm.htm

within the next 2 weeks we will be installing many Door closers and It would be much easier for me if I was able to copy this manual so that I can at least have 2 helpers installing with me.
We are nearing the final stages of this Tenant Build-out which consists of 10 interior strip stores.

the closers will be for the Store front doors and the Interior upstairs office doors.

I'm just looking for a kinda Cheat sheet that they can look as they assemble.

TIA

So you are getting money to install these door closers? If so there is no excuse not to buy it. Specially if you are offering to do something you are not comfortable doing.

I sure am getting Money for this thats why I get paid.

Do you work for FREE?

I am an Hourly Employee for a Small Construction Firm and I don't want to get stuck doing everyone myself.
Therefore if I can show someone else how to do this ,this will make my Job easier.

Do you Work yourself or are you still in School?

I am very Comfortable doing the work and Confident as-well.

Please Next time you post in My Thread please FULLY READ IT FIRST.
Thank You.

Now are there any experience people here who can Intelligently answer my request.
Possibly someone who is ACTUALLY in the TRADE Themselves. 8)

Hollywood, don't get too worked up. LP101 doesn't allow flaming or personal attacks.

I think Marso took your first message to say that 1) you are the contractor and 2) you wanted a copy of that actual publication for free. So Marso was just saying that a commercial contractor, getting paid for a job big job, should just pony up the cash and buy the book. Actually that is how I took your first message too.

To help answer your question, what model of door opener will you be installing?

No pun intended.

Just seemed like a Totally Sarcastic response to my post.

Right now I'm not exactly sure what the Owner is buying but I want to say probably Norton 1601 Series

Sorry Hollywood, yes I was a bit harsh. I was trying to word it in such a way that I was asking questions not making asumptions, but if you took it the other way, then sorry.

Grudge hit the nail on the head. I was implying if you are getting paid to do a job, you purchase the tools required to do a professional job.

As mentioned a number of times before I am currently studying however I do work with computers and get paid for it. I would do work for friends for free or a slab of beer and hence why I asked the question.

A pet hate of mine is backyarders in any field, I am not suggesting you are (after your second post) however I can imagine the locksmiths would have to contend with a fair bit with all sorts of people installing locks and the like.

It looks as though there is alot of documentation on the Norton site. I would also expect the items would come with instructions as well.

Also to be the stick-in-the-mud that I am I would also like to point to the boards rules:
2. No press releases, newspapers or copywritten materials may be posted, it is alright to post a few sentences using the quote /quote tags followed by the URL as long as the information is not self promotion.

Sorry again mate.

My Apologies as-well for taking you the wrong way.

I totally agree with that too

Most Commercial Construction Contractors here in the states provide this service
of installing Doors & Hardware along with Emergency push bars etc.
I'm guessing if We install the doors then why hire a Locksmith at an extra cost when they can have one of their employee's do it for them Hourly and then the company makes all the $$ themselves.

Shiat !!! I'm guessing around 40 doors total so they are saving lots & lots of money.
but without the xtra help that means that I'll be stuck doing them all myself and Then after all that I'm most likely going to be set back in the things that I usually am on top of and thats Quality Control.
Because like most company's there are those employee that are kinda there just for a pay-check and slap stuff together and not take pride in there work.

Thanks for the link very informative .

PS "Sorry"

Cheers

One would assume that the door hardware will come with assembly instructions?

Hehehe...I understand, and I don't think you want him to explain why....anyways...there's lots of hardware that doesn't come with much explaination, I'll have a look at that site and repost....I'll dig around a bit, I may have something.

Actually, that link of marso's is better info than in any of the binder's I got around here, so have a peek, especially once you know for sure what model they want. They're generally relatively easy to install, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Good luck.

Hollywood, the best advice I can give you is "JIG" it man. It doesn't take much time to bend and drill some flashing so your helpers don't even need to measure for it. Trust me, if I can make it work with student workers you shouldn't have too terrible a time with semi-skilled "professionals"

 Thanks.

Like Varjeal mentioned:
Alot of instructions don't really give much Explanation as well as having really fine print.
And with having a couple Newbie installers fumbling with the Manufactures instructions and squinting trying to view them would take up alot of Xtra time in the field and with some guy's making $16-18 per hr time is money for the company.

I'm the type that likes to cross train people in different aspects of different areas "if that makes any sense" Because in the long long they'll be More Valuable to the company and and feel better about themselves for Learning something new.

Randmguy: Thanks that is a Possibility.
