We all lockpick for what ever reason. But tell me, if you knew you could be the best have no limits to what locks you could pick or your knowledge of them, how far would you take it, and if you could what would you do.

P.s Don't be an ignorant idiot and say rob a bank, I mean what good would you do, how far would you take your skills, if you knew more about locks than the normal human comprehension could ever.

As it happens, this may be the truth should some people say this.

I guess I'd take up something new if I got to that stage - it just wouldn't be of any interest if there was no challenge.

You could use this knowledge you had to make some super-secure locks, and whether you did this for persnal gain or not you'd be doing good in the process.

Yeah... I guess terrorists are always after locked places right?

I mean after-all they intend to do maximum damage in a PUBLIC place so how the heck would this stop them????!?!??!

I would invent a pair of tweezers so long and microscopicly thin (maybe with buckytubes!!!!) that I could slip in the cracks of an X-09 and open it undected!

I'd (by methods of blowing air into the lock) use the vibration in the air to form as a key, and turn the lock.

This of course, all for the sake of science (and showing the manufacturers that they should do a better job).

Seems kinda like overkill to me, I can't see much demand for a person like that. A good locksmith can do most of what you throw at them so who needs a locksmith god?

Most locksmiths can't pick medecos, abloys, and other higher security locks. And even those that can, can usually only do it on a particular lock they practiced on or after hours of trying. With these powers you could do it in an instant. My local locksmith told me he had to drill these. With those "powers" you could be on-call as the only locksmith able to open the "unpickable" non-destructively and obliterate your competition. I can just imagine the ad in the phonebook: "opened non-destructively or it is free." Of course, it would never be free but it would be a great advertising gimmick. Government institutions and the military would want to utilize you for their "lockouts." Everything would be on the level of a 4-pin Master Lock, and physical barriers would lose meaning. Ok, I spun it out a little, but in conclusion-- I think it would be hella cool.

I would start designing locks that I would know that would be nearly impossible (or impossible) to pick/bypass and at the same time their mechanism would stay invulnerable to damage and error free :) Then I would do my best to make them every-day locking systems for a accessible price...

...and most of you would be out of a job! Arr!

Yeah.....if I were that good, I would either solicit my services to security companies in R&D for a nice salary, or maybe design a system of my own.

Maybe get into code deciphering or encryption.

Neat idea in concept, in 25 + years as a pro I have recieved maybe 10 calls to open doors with Medico, Abloy or any other type of security lock. Might just be the market here, but I have never really had a need to develop the skills to pick these locks.

If I were a lockpicking god, I'd design a lock so good that even I couldn't pick it.

What's the sound of one hand clapping?

:P
