Underwater lock

Are there companies that make locks that work in fresh water. The lock would be under water at all times.

Squire makes a lever padlock entirely of brass. These work fairly well I've heard.

I don't know of any others I'm afraid. :)

Thanks I will look into that lock.

I am constructing a SS gate that goes underwater for a spring that has blind cave fish in it.

So I need a lock that I can leave submerged 1-2 years at a time.

I don't need high security lock. I don't see that many divers trying to pick the lock to get to dive the cave.

:)

Wow, right up my ally. I am a GUE certified cave diver. As long as the lock isn't too crazy, I'd be glad to come pick it for you! :)

Now you did it. I have to try some underwater picking!

If you have a look around this site for the picking whilst sky diving thread you will see a link to either toool or ssdev where they have pics from when they had a group picking underwater

No site, very minimal feel... It sounds like doing an obstacle course blindfolded.

This is an offcial job.

6'x10' size tunnel, the gate will be made of SS 1" bar.

Yes the blind fish can easily make it through.

This will just keep out the openwater divers and divers that don't have permits out. :)

If ever locked out I can use bang to get past the lock. :O

The lock you want is the S&G Environmental Series padlock:
http://www.sglocks.com/prod_padlocks_environ.php

These are some of the most environmentally-resistant padlocks made. When they were first introduced, S&G locked one to a chain that had been welded on to the back fender of a car in the Baja off-road race. After being dragged behind the vehicle for the duration of the race, the S&G rep unlocked the padlock without so much as blowing off the dust.

Yes, abloy would be good as mentioned, but I would actually lean towards Squire as Illusion said because their locks are specifically designed to be used underwater, and in a salt underwater environment I might add, which is much more corrosive than fresh water. They are 'supposedly' (I remember hearing this but can't verify it) used by the British Navy and Oil Rigs in the North Sea to lock things up underwater.

"Can be used in extreme harsh environments such as sand, on the ocean floor, exposed landscapes, forests and mud."

And if want something a bit more secure, you could go for one of their 6-lever padlocks like this:

http://www.squirelocks.co.uk/html/profhs1.htm
"I think people should be free to engage in any sexual practices they choose; they should draw the line at goats though."
