Briefcase Combination Lock Locked! Help!!

This is the case I currently have:

If you'll notice the lock (from left to right):
(Item 1) There is a rectangular piece that can swing outward (Item 2) There are 3 rollers with numbers (Item 3) There is a square button that protudes out like in the picture

This is what happened:
I received my package, unpacked it, took out the case, unlatched it (NOTE I did not open the case yet) and noticed (Item 1, the retangular
piece) is swung outward. I also noticed that the (Item 2, the 3 numbers), were set to 0,0,0 (I think). Now here comes the stupid part. I press (Item 1) in so that it is swings back into place (flushed with the case , like in the picture).

Now I can't open the briefcase =[

The next thing I tried was the brute force method. I started at 000 and went up to 999, each time pressing (Item 3, the square button).
Each time the button would not go in. I tried this TWICE (going from 000 to 999 TWICE).

NOTE: I'm not sure how to operate the lock.
NOTE: I do not know the combination.

Can someone help me to open this case? From reading this board I know that I can call a locksmith but that would cost me a lot of money.

Also, can someone tell me how to operate this lock so I can correctly attempt to brute force the lock (if I'm not brute forcing it correctly).

operation should be dialing in the correct code then sliding the button away from the middle...

factory default is usually 000

Hmm, if it should open by going through all the combos..
Is it possible you missed a number? If not, I think the lock may be FUBAR, just take it back for an exchange.

Your button may also be a slide buton, as mentioned. If not, you can try shimming it with a sesamee decoder (please search, I must eat now )

UWSDWF, are you referring to the button that can be press? There are no buttons that can be slid to one side.

Sometimes they can't be slid until the right combo is entered. Is it a definite push button?

Yup,

The square button has a little play into and out of the case. It also sticks out of a square hole in the case so it definately cannot be slid =[

Well, if youre sure it is a pushbutton, you could try decoding it.

Although the link shows it on a padlock, it migt work on youre lock as well, follow the same method.

I just want to clarify what (item 1) looks like:

It is the retangular piece that is kind of swung outward (to the left of the 3 number wheels).

you can also try a mini-knife on this to open it up.

I agree Wolfe... you need to post a picture of you holding the case... that is if you would like anymore help then people telling you to try every combo.

you could take it to a locksmith yo udon't have to call the mout, i really doubt they would charg you that much.

like posted before a picture of you holding the case insted of pictures from the web would be helpful in getting you more help.

you have to understand where we are coming from this is a public forum and anyone can creat an account and ask how to open a lock, it happens alot, people who do post pictures we are looking for normally get a ton of help others don't and leave.

If all else fails, you could just run through all 999 potential codes in sequence, starting at factory default 000 and going to 001 tthrough 009, 010, 011, 012 etc. Should take you about 20 minutes or so, in worst case, should the lost combo be in the higher range.

take it back to the store, say it was locked when you unpacked it and it wont open. ask if you can exchange/have refund.
