Mushroom Pins......

hey umm ..... i just paid a lock smith 50 bucks to drill a hole into one of my locks and open it with a screw driver.

at first he tried to pick the lock, with hand tools, then a gun.

he told me that the lock was un-pickable. He says it's because of mushroom pins....

is this true ?

well it would help if you said what kind of lock it was, brand and whatnot

it is already drilled and busted so i dont know if that will help

The link to your pic is dead, the faster you can fix it the better. I'm really interested in picking mushroom locks. I'm from France, and I have a little experience with french mushroom cylinders. Be sure that they are NOT unpickable, they're just a little bit harder to pick than other cylinders.

If you find further information, It'd be nice if you would share them
with us.

They arn't unpickable, just harder then your average Kwickset, Schlage, or Arrow that that locksmith probibly comes across.

so do you think that the lock smith that came over was not skilled

or are mushroom pins really that hard.....

also....can you tell from the pic whether or not that lock really did have mushroom pins

Well, he probibly just wasn't very lucky. Unless your really good picking requires a bit of luck too.

well the dude only spend like 3 mins using the hand picks

then he spent like 2 mins using his gun

then he came to the conclusion that the lock has mushroom pins and therefore unpick-able

i'm not sure if i can show you the pins, cause like he killed all of them with his drill

I my self arnt no locksmith but if u think about it, the guy prolly was on 24 hour service which i hear is quit stres ful, he prolly just wanted to get u in quicker u know, he could spend 15 mins on handpicks and get lucky and open it or he could sh\ave u a shit load of time.

Do u know if schlage lockpicks are hard to pick i am new so are they probably hard for me?

I'm having real problems with mushroom pins in a Yale lock. I can get the plug to turn about 10 degrees or so but no further. The pins must be 'false setting'. I've used all kinds of picks and tensions, have tried single picking and raking but I can't get the thing to spin all the way! Any practical tips from anyone? My enthusiasm is beginning to wain.
