Juliet-06 Lock Pick Set and other newb questions

Postby Derealization » 28 Jan 2016 9:44

Hey all,

I live in the UK and ordered this pick set seven days ago, and I've yet to have it shipped (despite the supposed 1-3 day delivery time), I queried their support about it 2 days ago and haven't had a reply about it yet.

Just wondering a few things...

1. Is this a good set for a beginner?
2. If anyone else here has ordered from them, have you had any issues with their ordering process?

On top of this I'm looking into buying more locks in the future based on this Reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/lockpicking/co ... ock_picker

I've already got the "1-2 regular Master Padlocks" and "1 Magnum Master Lock" from Ebay, but I can't find the other ones listed anywhere in the UK, and the only way to get them would be to pay ridiculous shipping costs to ship a single lock from the US... not worth it. So does anyone else know of any other locks that are functionally similar that I can get in the UK i.e. a lock with security pins, deadbolt locks etc.?

ordered from whom? I've never heard of a Juliet-06 pick set until I just googled for it, so I'm gonna assume you bought http://www.stormlockpicks.com/lock-pick ... k-set.html but did you buy it from them or some other online shop?

Please always provide a link to what you are referring to or asking about, thanks

Yeah still no response from them, it's been what... 9 days since I placed the order and the estimated shipping time is 1-3 days. Anyone have any good bad experiences with them?

If you google a bit you can find multiple examples of Storm being slow to respond, but at least some of those cases seem to resolve happily.

...at the same time, this is the reason I generally pay only through PayPal: so that I have a method of dispute if the merchant is never heard of again.

While you wait, pick up a set of SouthOrd C2010, since you're in the UK these will work great in out thinner Euro profile keyways (such as Yales etc) and the set is pretty reasonably priced from many stores here in the UK :).

I also like Sparrows and Southord Max personally, but YMMV and of course it all depends on your wallet :).

Sadly not :/ The 21st will mark a whole month since I bought the set, and I've had no replies to either of my support emails. I messaged them on FB and included my order number earlier, so hopefully I'll get a response.

If that doesn't work I'll try their Twitter, and if I still get no news I'll give it another month (at most) for my order to arrive. If it isn't here by then, it's probably not coming at all.

Feels like I'm getting a custom PC built or somethin' ...

Yeah I used PayPal to pay for it.

They haven't tweeted since October 2014 so probably not using that account much, and no new posts on Facebook since March 2015. Wonder if the company got too big too fast and they got overwhelmed and pulled a Schuyler Towne.

Website still works, orders can be placed, but then nothing actually happens. what's the old saying? the engine's running, but there's no driver.

I clicked the Chat Now window and left a message, let's see if someone replies to me tomorrow.

Here's the godaddy admin contact info, anyone want to call that number during daylight hours and ask to speak to Mr.Rendell? I would hope they are ok and this and a couple other orders with issues are isolated and unfortunate incidents. I'd like to hear what they have to say as I like their designs and hope they don't fall apart as a company.

OP, does their website allow you to "log in" and look at your order number, order status, billing and shipping info as you filled it out? Did you get a confirmation email with your order number back when you placed the order? I'd like to know how much of the process the website went through or if it created a customer order at all.

Thanks,

According to the login page: "By creating an account with our store, you will be able to move through the checkout process faster, store multiple shipping addresses, view and track your orders in your account and more."

Although when I placed my order, making an account was optional and I didn't go through with it.

Squelchtone wrote:Did you get a confirmation email with your order number back when you placed the order?

Yes, this is the email:
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ORDER FROM STORM LOCK PICKS.

Once your package ships we will send an email with a link to track your order. Your order summary is below. Thank you again for your business.

Order Questions?
Email: Support@StormLockPicks.com

Placed on 21 January 2016 06:16:58 GMT

It also included my order number.

The actual tracking email never arrived, presumably because the lockpick set itself was never shipped.

Also, since I went back to look at the reviews section of the webpage for the pick set (http://www.stormlockpicks.com/review/pr ... st/id/65/#) I noticed something that seemed sort of off... all of the 5 reviews were posted on the same day (03/06/2014); there have been no reviews since or before that date...

This is one of the few reviews on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10t4kCQNBlg so the company was at least legit at the time, but have they just stopped trying now?

Even if it never arrives it won't be the end of the world, £29 (including shipping) isn't a huge loss but I'll leave a bad review on that webpage just to tell others that mine never arrived. I'll give them another month.

Will they work with Magnum Master Locks and regular Master Padlocks? And will I really need 15 picks and 7 tension tools?

You should be able to pick those Master locks with a plastic fork and a dirty look, with a little practice. Any pin tumbler pick set out there should be capable of opening those Master locks.

I've been a little disappointed in Storm Lockpicks.

As I recall when he first came here he acted like he was just another regular forum member, asked a few questions, fairly low key. Later it appears in retrospect that what he'd been doing is market research for his lockpick company, then a little geurrilla marketing, generating interest in his products before he even announced there WAS a lockpick company. I don't understand the subterfuge, I think he'd have been well received if he'd just been upfront with everyone about what he was doing on the forum.

He passed out a few samples to forum members to test and review, I was the recipient of a couple of them. I liked them. There were a couple minor features I'd have changed, but overall I was impressed with them.

I have a sizable pick reference collection so after he opened his storefront I wanted to place an order. It was a substantial order, not in the thousands, but close. I had a couple minor questions before I dropped that much cash on some products that had no user feedback yet, aside from the reviews on those few samples he'd handed out. After multiple emails to the company customer service address, to the owner's email address, and PMs to him on the forum with no reply to any of them, I gave up.

Since then I've heard stories from several others who had similar experiences, no communications returned from the company, orders not filled, etc. I've spoken to people who have seen him at conventions in the UK selling his picks and has a good reputation with some people, but overall I don't think they're doing a very good job with their customer service. It's a shame, I really liked some of their picks.

I think this may be a hit or miss joint. Was talking with a couple of picking buddies and they had received their orders from them. I thought I was in the clear, made an order and received nothing but crickets. They didn't even respond to the paypal dispute so I got a refund. However I would rather have had the picks.
