If you're actually a magician, and you're brilliant enough to come up with your own illusions, you'd think that you'd put a little more effort into grammar and spelling.

Tubular lock picks don't just pop them open instantly. You'd have better luck modifying a lock so that there's a special mechanism to open it. If you still want info on tubular locks, it's all over the forums, no one's hiding it from you. Find it yourself.

I smell bull...but if you were really a magician you would be able to make the info appear. Oh hey look i did it. the way to activate it is to click on that search button up there ^. plus why would a magician make his handle cocacola? Is it sorta suspicious that your handle is cocacola and you are asking about tubulars, or is it just me?

You're probably looking for something like this topic:

viewtopic.php?t=41

(Found it using that magic search button that's all the rage on the forums.) Let me save you a little time, though:
Picking a tubular lock, especially without shelling out a lot of money for some special picks, is harder than picking a "normal" lock. Even with the special picks, they'll do you no good unless you put the time into learning them.
In short, if you're a magician, you'll want to make a trick using something you actually have the key to. If your not, you'll find that you take so long picking "cocacola" machines that someone will turn you in before you finish. It'll probably take you, say, a half hour or so if you're lucky to pick one.

It looks like we have a few magicians here as well... their favorite trick seems to be making a newcomer disappear! Jeez guys!

cocacola: Here's a couple things that hopefully will help you understand why you got such a harsh reaction here.

1. You didn't search before asking. This tends to get some people's panties in a bunch around here because ppl do get tired of answering the same questions over and over.

2. You asked about locks that are often used to protect valuables such as vending machines and the like. This makes us particularily suspicious of newcomers, as the last thing anyone here is interested in doing is training up another generation of criminals.

3. You failed to give an adequate answer as to why you were interested in this topic. I also am a magician (and have been practicing for about 13 years now) and I can understand why you would not be inclined to give too much information on here. Others, however, will be less understanding (and rightfully so).

I am always interested in effects, so if you feel like sharing I too would be open to a PM. I hope this clears things up. Don't take it too much to heart. This is a wonderful sight filled with mostly a great bunch of folk. Even the ones that flamed you are a good bunch... honest! :)

Postby cocacola3 » 12 Mar 2005 1:11

hey digital blue,
i forgot about a lot of things, i am a member of a magic forum and i forgot how pain in the butt it is to have new people come in and just start asking things that have been asked by many people before. Plus we arent generally open to new people, so i geuss this is a lesson on being nice to new comers on that site because most of you guys are really jumping down my throat about this, all the information i can give you is the trick has to do with a bunch of boxes and i want the boxes to be locked with tubular style locks, because i wanna have them put soda cans in the boxs and its a general mind reading effect but i dont want to give anymore then that, i hope that helps answer some of your questions, and no im not interested in robbing soda machine for few bucks haha i have plenty of money and i really dont have much interest in crime if thats what your thinking. Anyways guys for those of you who helped thank you, and i hope those of you who didn't can try to be kinder because i just needed some direction and im sorry if i got anyone upset.

thanks,
dom

You'll be better off using a different principle than picking a lock man..

So you're trying to determine the kind of soda put into boxes?

1. Weight them differently or sized differently, use that to determine.

2. Use a large lippencott or other make that would let you peek or get in/out easily.

3. Get a gimicked lock or just have dupe keys made.

I don't see how having the picks would be any better unless you are borrowing the tubular lock....

Don't run when you aren't being chased, why wont a regular padlock work?

Dent is right. Uness there is something important that you're leaving out, I just can't see why picking a functional tubular lock would be needed. There's gotta be a better way. For instance, you could take all but 1 pin out. Then you could pick it with incredible ease.

Not knowing what you're after it's hard to make any recommendations about magic method, but as far as locks go, I would probably stay away from the tubular locks anyway. I don't think that they represent any great security in the mind of a spectator. I can think of at least a few ways that a padlock could be gimmicked to make covert opening very easy. PM me if you are interested, as this is getting a little off the mark of the purpose for this site.
