Because you were unsuccessful. I know that you were probably hoping for a magic bullet answer, but you are just not going to get one because there is no magic bullet answer. You need more practice, plain and simple. This is not easy. If it were, everyone would be doing it. If you have patience and work at it diligently, you will get it. If you do not have the patience, take up another hobby because this one is not for you.

I know I probably sound a bit negative, but I'm trying to convey a point to you. You need "time in". You can learn a lot of theory from the MIT Guide, but in the end you can not learn to pick locks without practice. So go put your tools back in the lock and keep at it. And, by the way, don't pick your door lock unless you are prepared to replace it if you mess it up.

Then stop picking it. Do your parents even know you've been trying to pick the front door lock? You're in seventh grade for crying out loud! You've read through the MIT Guide twice, and still didn't know what a tension wrench was. I highly suggest you DO NOT PICK ANYTHING ELSE until you know how to pick locks and know the possible dangers of doing so.

You're parents must have bought you those picks, right? Let them know that if they don't assure you get the proper guidance and training in lock picking that they may end up with a broken front door.

PS - I'm just mad about saying "driver pins" in a different post about 10 times when it was the wrong term to use. Don't take it personally.

You're worried about breaking a door lock that doesn't work? Well if that's the case, then the reason you can't pick it is probably because it's broken =) Buy some personal locks that aren't in use and use them solely for picking, they can be pretty cheap. Good luck!

Sorry for the emoticon outburst, I get angry when people misspell my name (when the correct spelling is right under their nose, especially). It's been happening to me like once a day for the past 18 years.
