That would almost for sure be an MRD ignition(magnetic resonance device), which is also called a PASSlock. We charge 48.50 for them, and that would be keyed to your key, so you do not need a second key for your truck. Most good locksmiths will key the new ignition to your old key. We would charge $35 for service call, $25 labor if drill is necessary, plus ignition. But cost of living is more in CA, so it will prolly be higher.
Most GM ignitions 96 and newer that are not vats or pats are MRD. It uses a magnet on the plug and has a hall effect sensor on the body of the lock. CSS or truck style ignitions(which are used in a few cars and all trucks) do not have a body so the plug slides into the column which contains the sensor. The car style that has a body are expensive, we charge $125. Anyways the idea is the sensor detects the magnet when you go to start the car and allows it to start. Theory says that any attempts to force ignition or drill, will probably destroy magnet or sensor, rendering the car immobile.
