Being a “Lock God†may be a nice goal to shoot for, but I don’t think it would be very profitable (except for the “bar betsâ€).
I work in a spam where there are literally 1000’s of high security locks on Slot Machines ,money containers and offices.
I can’t legally pick a lock on an active gamming device, I have to destroy the lock.
No big deal, spam have lots of $ and don’t care what it costs to replace the lock.
Actually they like the idea that the lock can’t be passed without the correct key or obvious damage.
The US military has similar requirements.
In an industrial setting time = $, and I can’t guarantee that I can pick a lock in X amount of time. I can guarantee that I can drill and replace in a set time period.
Everyone who eats potatoes eventually dies. Therefore potatoes are poisonous.

Yeah... I guess terrorists are always after locked places right? I mean after-all they intend to do maximum damage in a PUBLIC place so how the heck would this stop them????!?!??!
by stopping them in the first place, by getting insider knowledge. every terroist oganisation needs money to fund itself and not all funding comes from illegal sorces some have fronts like a taxi firm or warehouse some where theses are the places that counld be looked at, finding staff records, accounts, copying harddisks for later looking at. all this goes on now and it gathers loads more info that 'tailing' someone form one door to another.
thats how i would help against the threat of terror

i can state that NDE is in fact extremely profitable long term..
this is the beauty of this industry, you can never know or learn it all, all you can do is to continue to strive to be the best you can at what you do, and offer the highest standard of locksmith service possible. after all , any handy man with a drill, can drill and change a lock, not everyone can gain NDE entry.
as standards of NDE entry improve then so do the locks, as the locks improve then so does the tools, as the locks and tools improve then so does the locksmith, its a continuous cycle.
the new BS3621-2004 locks, recently released in the uk have been designed not only to be stronger, but to defeat the current decoders and picking methods used to defeat the old bs locks, as too many locksmiths were now beating them with ease.
now we start again, learning to defeat the new breed of locks, then they improve them further and the cycle continues.
the end winner is who, the consumer ! they get better security and better more honest tradesmen, win win situation for the consumer and industry.
i cant say for over the pond, but the day of the drill is all but over in the uk, public now are more aware, spending a little more on locks and choosing tradesmen a little more carefully.

If I were a locksmith god, I'd make a career out of magic shows. I mean, it's one thing when your card shows up in your wallet somehow, but it's another thing entirely when your card *and* your wallet show up in a safe deposit box in a locked bank vault.

if i were a lockpick master i would be showing off like .....
it would be really fun, and my no. 1 rule would be: never carry keys, carry picks. then pickpockets couldent get into my house if there wasnt a key... only picks to open with.
i would also design locks that were hard for even me... may a ultracompact 11-pin lock, with the most crazy side wards and pins were on both sides. and i would have the only built pick set just for that lock. that would earn cash... i hope.
i would also have shows were people show up with highsecurity locks and click! everyone aplauds. but i wouldent actually want to be a lockpick master, not yet. i dont even have my own pick set yet. my mom'n'dad are still thinking... (im 14)... they think i wanna be a burglar...
ive only managed 2 locks yet. one you dont even need tools for and the other i can "pick" in less than 3 sekonds... im not yet into all of this, so nothanx to masterpicklock yet..
where can you get Easy Picking on the internet? i need it...

Uber lockpicker, huh?
Hmmm....I would likely quit my current job, move to the largest, most industrially advanced city I could find, and contract my services out for high security lock-outs only. This service would be for elite customers such as banks, government agences, law enforcement, etc.
I'd then work like a nut for precisely five years. The next 6 years I'd spend rotating through apprentices teaching 1 every 2 years to do as much as I can, set 'em up in business' in different centers across the world (taking a consulting commission of course) then retire to an island...hmmm...Barbados sounds nice.
Being rich, then, I'd host special LSI conventions/competitions where up to 3000/session can hang out and have a go at all sorts of locks that I would supply.
The locks would be transported to 3 different events in the U.S. for a similar convention, 1 in central Canada, and 2 events in the U.K. in select locations.
Profit made during these events (from sales of tools, etc) would roll back into the organization to fund prizes, R&D into less expensive and more secure lock systems, and into creating worthwhile jobs to give opportunites for low income people with brains and ambition to work.
But then, who knows...never really thought about it before.
*insert witty comment here*

This is kind of off topic, but it's a pretty good story.
When the spam first came to KC I hit a progressive jackpot on a video poker machine. My wife was a slot supervisor at the time and was also working when I hit it.
I didn't think I was going to get paid! Gaming officers came out and started pulling chips out of the machine and plugging them into a laptop. My wife was standing with me and I ask her what they were doing. She replied she didn't know, so she asks them. They told her they do this on all the jackpots hit and she looked at me and said "I pay off jackpots every day and I have never seen them do this".
I did notice something on all the chips. I pointed to one of the chips and ask about it and was immediately warned not to touch anything. Then I was told they were seals. The chips all had seals on them! I looked at him and said, well it don't look like any of them are broke! He agreed and continued to pull seals and check the chips.
And yes I did finally did get paid.

First I'd unlock the meaning of life. Then I'd pick all the winning lottery tickets. Eventually I'd get bored and figure out how to pick my way past the gate of heaven (I'd buy St. Peter a hamburger or something first so he wasn't looking). Maybe, since God is all forgiving, I'd borrow His car for a day.

You walk up to a newspaper vending box to buy a Sunday paper which has a price of $1.75 you insert the 7 quarters and the box does not open. You push the coin return button, nothing happens. You notice the box has a simple 4 disk wafer lock to open the door. What would you do:
A. Walk away and forget about it
B. Wait for someone else to put money in and grab a paper when they take one.
C. Pick the lock and get the paper you paid for.
D. Call the newspaper and tell them you got ripped off.
E. None of the above

This reminds me of a school homework we once had to do for our english class. Write a short story/essay about what you would do if you were invisible for a day. NOBODY came up with a story that was completely along the lines of the law...
Due to financial limitations the light at the end of tunnel has been turned off until further notice.

LOL, I was thinking the same.
First thing I'd do is throw away all my keys and do everything with picks.
