Honestly the 20$ you pay for the shims arent worth it theres not skill or thrill in it just learn to pick as you will find out the new procedure employed by high grade lock companies and even cheep ones is called the double ball locking mechanism, this will stop ANY attempt at shimming making it litterly impossible, there are locks that can be shimmed but most of them are either replaced or will open just as fast with a few swipes of a rake.

ok, so i ahve begun picking locks that i own (i want to stay legal and respected here) and i ahve picked my safe, and a couple other small locks, however, i have not been able to pick this master lock that i have, it is unopenable to me still. in fact i am having trouble getting ANY padlock open via picking. is there some small detail i am missing here?

also- can ANYONE point me in the right direction of bike spoke picks? i am at the misfortune that everything i use MUST be home made, due to i have no money and my mother would kill me if i bought some somewhere online. and i have tried usign the search feature, but to no avail. maybe im using it wrong or something, anywho if anyone could steer me right that'd be great.

thanks all!

Krypos wrote:i think the problem lies within the locking mechanism. on the one i shimmed the other day (please excuse my lack of proper terminology) the locking part went into the shackle straight across, on this lock (i saw it open when my teacher took it off (he used key, doesnt even know combo) i saw inside briefly, it locks kinda in front of it on the side, but in the same fashion as before, just differently placed. i couldnt shim it and am too new to pick it. unless there is an easy way.

thanks again all.

There is a very easy way. Today I opened my first lock, a masterlock combo standard school issue. Try a google search for "lost combination masterlock". The method for finding the code worked beautifully for me, and requires no tools or special skills. I'm hoping to learn how to actually pick locks - looks like I have a lot of work!
