Self Adhesive foil for impressioning

Postby Bellman » 14 Jul 2004 6:34

Hi Guys,

While looking for suitable thin adhesive foil for impressioning, I discovered that the foil that we alarm engineers use on windows is perfect, about 1/2" wide and self adhesive.

Anybody else suggest anything simlar I can try?

Regards

foil impressioning

Postby sidpick » 11 Oct 2004 18:48

The foil is adhesive in the falle kits, it can be applied either over the top of the comb or a slight wrap which starts from one side of the comb, over the top and then finished at the bottom (if this makes sense!! it basically makes the comb fractionally snugger fitting if you have a loose or worn cylinder) The foil is then trimmed to the shape of the comb, lift pins with the insertion tool, slip the tool in, remove insertion tool and then tension to impression. Tension tools are custom made and heavy duty
The Union and viro kits work 100% in my experience, it sometimes helps to put a tiny bit of vaseline (very very small amount!!) on the foil to aid insertion. The yale kit is difficult to extract once lock is opened and you cannot even try to decode the pin heights or cuts .. unless your a lock Jedi! I modded mine by bending the tops of the comb to fit the lock better
It does work, but not as quick as picking
Be weary about leaving foil in the keyway! :)
