Here is what I dont get. Everyone complains about how easy a Kwikset lock is to pick and to upgrade, but how effective will that be?

Well, what about foil impressioning. It requires little skill, is highly effective, leaves no evidence, super quick (quicker than picking sometimes), and mushroom/spool pins do not make it anymore difficult.

This would seem to be a more ideal burglar tool than a pick, but I doubt anyone uses it...or picks locks for burglary anyway.

The ease of pickign a Kwikset says alot about its total quality. A strong man can twist off a Kwikset KIK with his bare hands. Upgrading to quality hardware/properly installed door, deadbolt, strike etc. will really be effective against burglary.
