Should read "...it is easy to 'bind' the tension wrench against the housing - meaning you will NOT know when you have picked the lock..."

master locks are nice locks to practice with, you can always pick these up really cheap at yard sales. i have a huge gym bag full of various locks that every once in a while i will see if i can pick the whole bag in a hour............never done it yet theres always about five locks that give me a hard time................theres a mix of warded, wafer, and pin locks and various cam locks....................practice practice practice...............it really helps alot.

You should be proud that you picked it!, don't feel "like a noob" I think I would be safe to assume for a good share of us here a master padlock was the first lock we picked. As you learn you it will get easier. I recommend getting a deadbolt to practice on, that way after you pick it, you can repin it and you basically have a new lock to pick.

I get good deals at yard sales no mater what. But yah I am sure I could get them for free if they don't have keys.
And I am sure to have some new stuff to make lock picks this spring.

sort of interesting to look at the OP and the times he posted on was it feb18 you can see that right after 3 hours of not getting it, he gives up and ten minutes later hes all 'woot, i got it.'

congrats on your first pick!
yeah, i was looking at kwiksets the other day at the hardware store and i chuckled when i saw the "pick resistant" label, as i have only been picking for several weeks and i can rake open a kwikset in less than five seconds and pick each pin individually in about ten. Kwiksets are pretty laughable, even for such a noob as myself.
It's a simple question Doctor, would you eat the moon if it were made of ribs?!

Pratice makes perfect. The Master #3 is insanely easy to pick. I can do it in about 3 seconds now. I can rake a Master #21, but I have a hard time picking it, so I'm working on that one. Fun stuff. I'll have to get a Kwikset next. I thought I was oversetting the pins when I first got the lock, but that clicking was in fact the driver pin catching the edge . And wow, I was really overdoing the tension at first. Hint to any noobie pickers out there -don't overtension, it's not necessary. I'm obsessed now. Even thought it's easy, I pick my Master #3 about 15 times before bed and during homework while I'm reading. So much funnnn....

weird, i've been going through kwiksets and luggage locks in no time at all but i've been having trouble with masterlocks, maybe i'm using too much tension.

I just bought a No. 3 Masterlock just like that, and I've been able to pick it . I'm glad you can too.

I think you could ask a gym and locksmiths for free locks that are old and unwanted. Sometimes peoples leave their locks at the gym and you should see if they've clipped any off. lol probaly not a good idea to suggest you picking them off.
