I can only speak from experiance and cant say whether im in the right or not as its not really come up in discussion before,
I ordered 300 steel keys for a euro profile section i sell, i ordered them from my normal supplier who is one of the big key makers,
They came as a universal blank and when questioned they said that was what they always did and didnt do original keys for them,
What they are is a specifically made blank to purposely fit a number of locks,
The ones i stock fit not only the euros i get them for but also the 6 pin yales and actually quite a lot of other locks,
They do have a bit of play on them but cut and work totally fine,
There are a few types of them, the one i have is classed as a universal high security blank and i think the people i get mine from do a range of them,
If you very very rarely come across some locks you can carry 50 of these and know your gogin to be able to cover most the locks you dont carry specific blanks for,
Were not talking about the thing falling in and out the keyway, they are still a nice fit in the lock,
As for the hardware stores, around here they dont use them but then again i dont know if they even know about them, the hardware stores tend to either have a guy go round and tell them what blanks they need to buy and then supply them, they mostly can not cover anything that isnt the most common of lock in the area,
As regards the national key cutting places i have no idea as ive never been in one due to me liing in the country,
Jimmie,
I think weve found why im struggleing mate, ive been useing the universal blanks and as you say the movement has meant bad marts, i shall try brass original brand blanks and speak with you later

Schuyler,
Dam right mate
