Ive drilled apart a couple of 140s and noticed the spool pins in chamber 3 and 4 are quite crappily made. Jagged edges and burrs (sp?) Can make a pin stick and get hung up like its nobody's business. Some 140's I'll pop in 30 seconds, some I've yet to open. I like to think Master Lock just has inconsistant production quality and or quality control.

The build quality on the interior components of the 140 family is quite bad. This does actually increase the difficulty of picking their security pins though because of all the burring which can really lock them up tight. If faced with a 140 (or it's close relatives even down to 20mm) I just jiggle it with a Bogata, some in my collection even accept the Bogata as if it were a key.

FWIW all the Master 140s I've picked have one security pin. Usually a spool in position three.

If you can pick it to a false set and can feel counter rotation then you'll know for sure you're working with a spool.
