Not sure about bumping... seems like you'd get every pin BEFORE the key reached the end and lifted the check pin, as opposed to the opposite order, which is what you'd really want.

With a "minimal movement" bumpkey things would be ideal. This way the control cut would never be away from the control pin.

I believe what schlage produces is a LFIC or large format interchangeable core. The lock differs from best by using only the 7th pin for control function. The control keys are cut on special blanks from schlage and already have the 7th cut at the proper depth so I feel the control pin cut is the same across all of these locks. Best can be a bear to pick because you are working with 2 shear line and you must be able to feel which you are picking to. Hope that clears that up a bit.

Thanks for the reply, I have never had the need to repin any of these, but everyone I know says they're a pain to work with. As for Schlage locks we don't come across them very often here in England, and when we do they are never of the shape pictured above but a screw in mortice cylinder or euro lock maybe. There is a big difference between the locks in the States and here in England. ie. key in knob cylinders in the States and B.S. mortice locks here in the UK.

Did you count seven pin seats on the key or did you find the seven pin information by listening to the pins drop? It looks exactly like the interchangeable core that Zeke is telling you, to pick the lock open, you need only pick the six front pins, that seventh pin is the ic control, and if you pick the lock open, you can easily lift that and pull the core out for recombining or whatever. I have picked a number of these to remove the cores when a control key was lost.
