I picked up a deadbolt by that brand, had 2 security pins in the back. Once in awhile it would act kinda funny as you were saying with the key. I spun it a few times each time it did that and the feeling went away.

Ah, my first post...

I went to WM tonight and purchased the same lock you guys are having problems with... The item number of mine is 201-40001.

This is actually my first lock I tried to pick. It took about 5-10 minutes for me to learn how to rake and open it. I can now, after an hour or so, open it about every 10 seconds.

I only used a simple rake and tension tool.

shim it

Postby raimundo » 10 Jan 2007 12:47

Look closely at that padlock where the keyway is shown, I see no flange on the end of the plug to keep out shims, I was looking for this because I have an older mountain lock that is the same, you can take the shim out of a shopliftertag and push it into the lock from the bottom there while lifting pins with a pick. Everyone who has a mountain lock should look for this basic flaw and tell us if yours has it.

lnb

Postby raimundo » 12 Jan 2007 12:53

Lnb must be referring to some sort of through the keyway and out the back end to manipulate the locking dogs directly approach, also good to try and don't forget to post your findings, you may have a different variant of the lock than what he was using.

Rays got it :) The brass mountain version are easy however the laminated version is possible but has a much higher spring pressure for you may bend a hook or straight knife

Mountin Security-Brass 201-40001 New Trick!

Postby ObiWonShinobi » 23 Mar 2007 5:54

I was mad as #@!! when I could not feel the pins bind.
But it turned sooooooo easy with the key.
And I cound see the plug moved easily.

So I put the tension bar in AT AN ANGLE.
Outer side as far out as possible.
Inner side 2-3 mm closer to the pins.

it makes it a little tight...but you can feel em bind right away
because the p[lug is rotating off-center.

one quick ram with a rake and it pops..
like bumping... less than a second.
