Wow, I'd love to go. Since it is only in New York I might start saving now and hopefully get some cash for my birthday and make my way there. It's been way too long for me to have the pleasure of meeting some of you guys in person, buying a bunch of you a few beers and just having a wonderful time picking locks. I really hope it works out.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

If you go, I *have* to go.

I gotta wait until it gets closer to the date before I can secure approval from Big Navy(tm), but unless that falls through I'll be there...and sleeping with Doug Farre :-)

Last time I checked, they might kick you out of the military for admitting something like that...

You can actually sleep right on the convention floor. They typically set up hammocks. It can be kinda hard to get one during the day, but you can usually track one down in the middle of the night to sleep in. That's how I did it last time around.

Just checked Greyhound and it's only $166 round trip! Really looking forward to this since I've never been to any kind of Locksport event.

My main interest will be the Lockpicking Village - what's a good time to arrive - Friday afternoon?

When will most everyone be leaving - Sunday night? Monday?

I'll be there at least Thursday through Sunday. Might be bombing in on Wednesday. Used to live in NYC so I always use HOPE as an excuse to catch up with old friends around the city.

What's the usual Lockpicking Village scene like? I've never been to one. Can you basically hang out and just pick locks and swap lies the whole time? Nirvana!

Is there an exhibit floor like the mainstream conventions? And $85 really covers the whole thing? WOW!!!

Since I teach Keyless Entry to Law Enforcement Officers, there is a lot of support material I can bring like common cylinders pinned in increments, clamped practice locks, etc - also sale stuff like picks and pick sets. Are there any problems selling or possessing picks in NYC? :?:

 Can help out, too. Or even teach a seminar in basic picking or particular common techniques (making/using padlock shims, combination locks, forcible entry technique, etc). Not to the depth of a Datagram or one of the 100lb brain guys - but well enough that participants have a good time and learn enough to have a decent shot at picking locks.

Selling is typically restricted to whoever is running the village, which is typically TOOOL. You can get a booth pretty cheap at HOPE if you want to be a Vendor. Assuming their setup remains the same the vendor area is typically very nearby the village.

The village at HOPE was marginalized last year. Less space and less convenient to get to. I'm hoping it'll be back in it's rightful home this year. Don't forget, lockpicking is a VERY small part of HOPE. The Village is open all weekend and there will be plenty of lockpickers, but this is primarily a hacker con and kind of a weirdo one at that. My friends love HOPE because they green light a lot of really charming nutcases to give talks.

Don't expect vendors or an exhibit floor related to locks, but lots of good collections. Barry & Han typically attend too.

Thanks, Sky.

I guess I would just bring tradeables, then. Forgive my insecurity - to get the vacation days and bucks for HOPE I have to cancel another trip.

Tho I work daytime in the compewter biz my hearts in picking. Is there enough picking to make it worth the day-on-a-greyhound-each-way trip, do you think?

Are there enough food choices nearby so you're not stuck with $10 convention hotdogs?
